Paul O'Brien Services

Continuing the ongoing saga of the soggy porch
Page 2

Paul O'Brien Porch 09 This is the right side of the deck. This shows more rot removal.

Once again the sheathing and studding were unusable.
Paul O'Brien Porch 010 Finally we are starting to replace everything.
The sheathing has been replaced with plywood and the seams covered with Ice and Water Shield.
The exterior electrical outlet has been replaced as well.
Paul O'Brien Porch 011 We are beginning to wrap things up....literally.

The Tyvek House Wrap will help protect against moisture
Paul O'Brien Porch 012 The siding has been stained BOTH sides off site and allowed to dry.

Staining the back side adds another layer of moisture protection.
Paul O'Brien Porch 013 The deck framing is now going back in place.
This time however the deck has been spaced away from the house.
Maine Deck Brackets have been used in this instance to keep the ledger board
about 4" from the house for water drainage.
Paul O'Brien Porch 014 This view shows the 'Birds Foot' of the joists.

The original stairs have been temporarily put in place without the decking.
Paul O'Brien Porch 015    Paul O'Brien Porch 016 The decking has begun.

The decking boards are 5/4 Cedar as opposed to the original Pressure Treated wood.
Paul O'Brien Porch 017 Everything is back together. The original railing was saved
and the customer will stain the deck at a later date.
All the replaced trim on the house was primed both sides before being applied.

The customer was extremely pleased.....as were we.
